MECHANICAL MAINTENANCE

Scope of Work:
Individuals assigned to positions in this job family operate machine shop equipment in the construction, installation, maintenance, and repair of metal parts, machines, vehicles and physical plant equipment.
Examples of Duties:
- Operate lathes, milling machines, drill presses, surface grinders, hydraulic presses, gas and electric welders and various other hand and power tools
- Fabricate and install specialized equipment
- Interpret and translate power plant equipment
- Conduct diagnostic tests and analysis
- Perform tune-ups to ensure efficient operation
- Remove, repair, and replace vehicle parts
- Perform minor auto body repair
- Clean, maintain, and ensure safety of shop area, other buildings and yard
- Assist with budget development regarding shop operations and monitor expenditures
- Complete required forms and records
- May supervise employees performing similar work
Minimum Qualifications to Enter Family:
Requires high school diploma or GED.
Exception: The employing institution may substitute directly related
work experience or education for minimum qualification requirements with
written justification.
